At the Movies: 10 Things I Hate About You

10 thingsOnce again, favorite Back to School Movies!

Loosely based on Shakespeare's Taming the Shrew, 10 Things I Hate About You focuses on two very different sisters: Kat (Julia Stiles) and Bianca (Larissa Oleynik). Bianca wants nothing more than to be popular and date Joey - and older, popular boy who also happens to perfectly embody the song You're so Vain - while Kat doesn't care about boys or what people think, which has earned her a reputation for being hostile and crazy.

But it so happens that Kat and Bianca's dad won't let Bianca go out unless Kat does so too. Enter Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who's so in love with Bianca that he would do anything to get her to go out with him, even if that means getting a date for Kat. And the only guy willing to attempt to date Kat is mysterious and brooding Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger).

Ah, how much I love this movie? let me count the ways! It's, by far, my favorite Heath Ledger-movie, but aside from that it makes me smile every time I watch it. Taming the Shrew is such a timeless story and I think that 10 Things I Hate About You makes it justice.

  2. I love this movie!! My favorite part is when she sneaks him out of detention. Or when she gets hammered at the party and dances on the table.

  3. This is one of my favourite movies, I've watched it so many times! I also love the scene in which Heath sings :D and I love the part where Bianca shows Cameron Kat's room, but then says he can't see hers because a girl's room is very private :)

  4. I adored this movie, after all of these years...it's still hard to believe that Heath Ledger is really gone. This movie ties with A Knight's Tale as my favorite HL movie. Both movies were so much fun!
