At the Movies: Bend it Like Bekham

Bend itJess (Parminder Nagra) has one dream: to become a football star like her idol David Beckham and spends most of her free time playing football with her guy-friends in the park near her home. Her parents don't really approve of it but let her be for the most part.

When Juliet (Kiera Knightly) sees Jess playing in the park one day, she decides to approach her and tell her about the girl's soccer team she belongs to, urging Jess to join. Jules also dreams of becoming a football star, maybe even moving to America to play in the Women's league.

The two girls soon strike a friendship and set out to play some bloody good football, under the direction of their super swoony male coach (a young Jonathan Rhys-Meyers looking super hot!).

Bend It Like Beckham is about a lot more than just girls playing football, it's a story about friendship, crushes and family. Most of all, is about going after your dreams even if it's scary or not what your parents hoped they would be.

Over all, it's the kind of movie that always leaves me with warm fuzzies!

And you can see Kiera Knightly before she decided acting meant pursing her lips!!! YAY!

At the Movies: Ever After

Ever AfterEver After is a Cinderella type of story about the life and times of Danielle de Barbarac, a young woman left at the mercy of her step mother after her father's death. It has a few enjoyable twists - like its' take on the stepsisters - and a lovely prince.

It's one of my go-to happy movies and I sort of always relate it to summer because I saw it in the summer with my sister. It reminds me of so many good things of my life - like Prep school and my friends - and it's just a lovely, sweet story.

Danielle is a strong girl that saves herself and gets what she wants, and Henry, the Prince, was a great character - unlike in the Disney's Cinderella, he actually talks and has thoughts! - full of doubts and looking for something he can feel passionate about.

What can I say? I go completely swimfan when it comes to this movie.

At The Movies: Blue Crush

Blue CrushGirls get ready to surf as here we come with another installment of Summer Movies!

With the help of her friends, Anne Marie is preparing for a big surfing competition in Hawaii (where they live) while working at a resort in Maui and trying to stay afloat financially.

Anne Marie hasn't been in a competition since three years before she got hurt and almost drowned, but winning this one means everything to her and her friends, so she decides to try.

At the same time, she meets a football player, who at first hires her to teach him to surf but who might want more.

I had never seen this Blue Crush until recently and I enjoyed it a lot, it's a light summer movie. There is the beach, there is romance and there is friendship. And there are some kick ass surfing scenes. It's not the movie everyone was waiting for but it's fun. Plus, Kate Bosworth actually looked cute, back when she still had a body.

At The Movies: Never Been Kissed

Never Been KissedSummer is here and I figured it would be nice to feature some of my favorite Summer Movies, so here we go!

Josie has never been one of the popular girls. She's smart, she's okay with her life, she likes her job but, when the opportunity comes, Josie jumps at the chance of a Do Over. For her first assignment as a reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times, 25 year old Josie Geller is going back to high school.

Going back to high school was supposed to help Josie get her big break as a journalist, but it might give her so much more than that...

Throw in a cute teacher, cute guys, clique-y girls, actual friends and Josie's crazy brother and you have the makings of a really good summer movie.

I still remember the summer when I saw Never Been Kissed for the first time, back when I was a geeky girl going to Prep School. I loved it then, and I love it still - I catch it every time is on TV.

Never Been Kissed, shows that it's never too late to find do things right, to find love, to get what you want, to find yourself... and for that, it shall always remain a favorite.
