In the last week of Book Playlist Edition I wanted to tackle Amy and Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson.
Music is such a big part of their journey that I wanted to include a couple of their songs.

If you have read the book, you know that Amy and Roger's Epic Detour is full of playlists and I admit that I didn't know MOST of the bands and singers on Roger's lists, but a few I did recognize so I putting them here now.

We are still doing Book Playlists and for this week -and in theme with Marchetta Madness week - I'm featuring songs from books by Melina Marchetta. 

Music is a big theme in Melina's stories, it helps people connect and to heal. Many of Melina's characters are musicians - like Justine, Tom, Frankie, Ben - or need to feel the music like the people from Charyin in Froi. 

So here are my Marchetta inspired picks

The Coward of the County by Kenny Rogers - It's a recurring theme in Jellicoe Road, each time Taylor says anything about Kenny Rogers everyone always tells her "Oh, the Coward of the County" and I think Taylor takes it a bit personal. This song always makes me a little sad, which is how Jellicoe makes feel too.

I'm Your Venus by Bananarama - This movie comes up in Saving Francesca - and Tom says he only danced to it because he thought it said I'm your Penis - It's actually quite a feel good song for me so, here it goes. Fair warning, though, the video is SO 80's

Lastly, this song comes up in The Piper's Son, and I love it anyway so I thought, why not? The Blower's Daughter

Continuing with the Book Playlists I wanna share another song, Tennessee Line by Daugthry. This one is special for me because it was actually one of the first Tune in Tuesdays Posts I ever saw and it always reminded me of Where She Went by Gayle Forman - probably because I was reading it at the time. 

Also, there are certain lines - like when he says "This cannot end tonight" and where he talks about letting go off all the bad calls he ever mad, asking to be shown the way to right his wrongs - that always makes me think of Adam.

So, for this month we are going to be posting songs that are either in the playlist of a book or that remind us of a book in some way. 

For my first Book Play List edition I picked two songs by Bruce Springsteen which tie in to the book Jane by April Lidner. I had the chance to participate in a chat-event with her around the time the book came out and she mentioned that she had somewhat based the character of Nico in Buce Springsteen, and then a couple of people asked her if any of his songs would play during the book, and she answer yeah. 

These two are the ones that I liked the best. 

Cover Me - for the scene where Jane and Nico meet, he's driving and this song just makes me want to go for a drive and blast it as loud as the car stereo will allow. 

And Frankie - for the first time that... well, you know *wink wink* I put my favorite version of the song

I first heard this song in the movie Practical Magic, actually. In any case, I think it's a great song.

Since today is V-day, I decided to put one of my favorite love songs but as it turns out they are mostly songs about broken hearts, I have no idea why since I've always though that love should be hopeful. So, instead, I went classic.

If there is a song that always makes me wish I could dance, is this one. I'm not crazy about the video but I've always loved the song. It was a huge hit when I was a kid, so I always remember it fondly. I even saw the very crappy movie they made about it.

If there was a song that made me want to check out No Doubt was Bathwater. It wasn't Don't Speak, I actually kind of hate Don't Speak, to be true. But I love, Bathwater, I can't hel singing it whenever I hear it. It makes me happy and I seriously love the beat of it.

I'm actually a big fan of Duffy, I love her songs and her voice has such a nice, old-fashioned quality to it. I always have at least one song of hers in my playlist and this morning, as I was going to work after I had to go to the hospital so they could draw blood and run some tests - and my arm was hurting, and yes I'm a big baby but they took THREE tubes. Of the big ones - this song totally lifted my mood.

Okay, so I was thinking about the whole concert edition thing and I realized that I've only seen 4 performers in concert. One mexican boy-band in their farewell tour - my dad took my Boo, Betty and me (Baby) (What can I say, we like our B's) - and this guy called Luis Miguel that my sister loves and I was forced to tag along when we were little. Then there is this Spanish guy, whose concert I am going to try to show you because it's AWESOME but I'll save it for Foreign Edition. And... the Back Street Boys!!. So... as you can realize I'm woefully unprepared for this!

But I decided to put a song by a band I wish I could see in concert: Bon Jovi singing Livin' on a Prayer (I LOVE THIS SONG), I don't actually know when was the last time they came to my country but boy, I love them!

Also, did you know that a reference to this song was in one of the drafts of Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta?
