Book Review: Endlessly by Kiersten White

WARNING! THIS REVIEW MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS ABOUT PREVIOUS BOOKS IN THE SERIES

At First Sight: All Evie wanted to do was plan an amazing Winter Formal and spend the winter break with her boyfriend Lend, who is back from college. But of course, when you're Evie - a.k.a. The Empty One - and you're a pawn in the plots of paranormals and humans a like, nothing is ever easy.

Over the last few weeks, lots of paranormals have been gathering around Evie's town, and they all want the same thing: for Evie to open a gate to the dimension they all came from.

But Evie isn't sure she wants to help out - she doesn't know if she can do it, or how, or what will it cost her. - but she does know that if she does it, it will be on her own terms.

With the time running out for people she really cares about, Evie has some very tough choices ahead of her.

Second Glance: I've been looking forward to Endlessly since last year when I read Supernaturally, since I'm such a big fan of this series. And I really, really wanted to like it! I'm happy to say that I did but not as much as I hoped to.

The book has a rather uneven pace, it has moments were a lot of things are happening, where there are things to be accomplished and others where the action just stops. The writing is funny and I still love the characters, I even grew to care a little about Reth, the faerie guy who is always around Evie, but it was very easy for me to put the book down.

And sometimes it took me days to get back to it.

Again, it's not a bad book by any stretch of the imagination, but the pace was a bit of a killer for me. Also I thought the book needed an epilogue. I felt the story just stopped and I would have loved to read a little ways down the road, see how life was after what happens.

Bottom Line: Endlessly was a good closure for Evie's story, it wraps up everything pretty well, the writing  was fun and breezy and cute, like Evie herself. I liked it, but I wasn't as excited about it as I thought I would be. Maybe my expectations were a bit high, but I still think it was a good book and a lovely series.

Book Review: Supernaturally by Kiersten White

Supernaturally
Gorgeous Cover!!
Warning!! This review might contain some spoilers regarding previous books in the series.

At First Sight: When we last saw Evie, she was finally getting the 'normal' life she had always yearned for, away from IPCA. Only that it didn't turn out quite as she expected: Gym class sucks, her job at the diner is tiresome and, with Lend away at college, her whole life in general is a little boring and lonely.

So when Raquel - her former boss - shows up, offering Evie a chance to work for IPCA again, Evie is reluctant but eventually agrees and gets paired up with Jack, a teenage human boy who can use the faerie paths.

Soon, as it always is when Faeries are involved, Evie's life is spiraling out of control: she's lying to Lend, ditching her Vampire friend Arianna and realizing she can't blindly follow IPCA's orders anymore; plus she's still worrying about who she is and how long she has to live.

Second Glance: Supernaturally is the second book following the adventures of Evie whom we met in the super awesome Paranormalcy (one of my favorite reads of 2010), and I honestly couldn't wait to get my paws on it as soon as I finished book one.

In this installment, Evie is just trying to find her 'normal' and her home, unsure of what either of those mean. And she fears a future when Lend might not love her anymore, and that's kind of ruining everything. Working for IPCA makes her feel important, but it has it's own set of complications. And then there is Jack, who is sometimes a friend and sometimes just a pest; but whom has his own sad past and his own agenda.

Supernaturally is very different from Paranormalcy, but it's till made of awesome. This time around the plot is a little looser, more episodic, and it focus on Evie's growth as a person, rather than in a 'big bad' - though there is a bit of that too. I still love Evie and Lend, they are adorable together and I LOVE how Lend is kind of the perfect guy - and yes, I have a very sad crush on him right now (LOL)

Plus, even though it's not outright mentioned, i have the feeling that there is something really bad brewing at the edges of Evie's world, and I can't wait to find out what it is... though that means I have to wait a whole year for the third -and final - Evie adventure: Endlessly

Bottom Line: Though Supernaturally is slower in terms of pace and plot, I have to say that I really liked it. The humor was still there, and Evie is still a lovely narrator. My only complaint is that there should have been MORE LEND!

Favorite Quote: "I'm too mad to talk right now, and I love you too much to say anything I'll regret." - Lend (Seriously! How can anyone not love this guy?)

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

ParanormalcyEvie thinks she's just a normal girl, sure her best friend is a Mermaid and she sort of dated a faerie once, but - at sixteen - she knows no other life than the one she has working for IPCA (the International Paranormal Contingency Agency), they are the closest thing to a family that she has ever known. Before them she bounced around in the foster system until the IPCA found her when she was eight.

Why does is she so important for IPCA? Well, Evie has a rare gift: paranormal glamours don't affect her, she can see through them to whatever they are underneath. So, ever since she was eight, she has been working for the agency, helping them find paranormals as sort of make and inventory of them (Bag and Tag 'em, she calls it), and, as far as she knows, this is a good thing.

But something weird is happening… there have been random killings of paranormals that no one can explain, and when a guy breaks in the Center (where Evie lives), Evie starts to question just what the Agency is all about.

Ever since I saw the cover of this book, I thought it was beautiful, but I never really tried to read it until the reviews began to roll around. At first I didn't think I would like the book (paranormals aren't really my thing), but I was so very wrong and glad to be. Evie is a charming, adorable heroine. She's cute and funny and wears lots of pink. Lend - the break in guy - was awesome. He offers Evie a glimpse into the life of Paranormals outside the Agency, and give her a wonderful sense acceptance that she never had before.

Paranormalcy is a wonderful paranormal world the one Kiersten White concocted. There is humor, there is conflict and a great conclusion. I can't wait to read the next one of the series - I think it's called Supernaturally - and go back to Evie's world.

I bleeping loved it!
